I was wakened at 3:30 this morning by a clap of thunder. This is what I saw out my door. Fortunately I had a lazy day planned. |
I waited until the rain stopped at 11:30 before checking out of my motel and heading to the Alamo in San Antonio |
It sits right downtown so parking is $10.00 no matter how far away it is. I found a metered on on the street for only $3.80 |
Fortunately it is free to visit. I was impressed by the fortress and was surprised that they didn't hold off the invasion. I've forgotten my history so will have to check it out later. Most of the inside exhibits were of the weapons of the time. They must have run out of food or water is my guess. |
This is a continuous line of visitors making their way through. |
It's still in good shape |
A view from the back or side |
The gardens behind the building were beautiful |
Lots of color everywhere |
I still had some time on the meter so walked over to the River Walk |
It is a very pleasant area to walk through and enjoy |
Some unique water features |
Some new wildlife making their debut |
I saw several of these, not one with a passenger |
You can get to street level by either the stairs or elevators....I went down the stairs............but |
Many nice shops and eateries along the walk |
This is the world famous buckhorn bar. Not sure why it is famous. |
I stopped at McDonalds to use their wifi and this officer pulled in behind me. |
All I can say is that Beemer sure looks tiny next to the Wing. |
I planned to stay in Austin tonight..........have I ever mentioned that I don't like big cities? |
I decided to continue on to a smaller town and ended up in Johnson City. Must be named after LBJ because there is some kind of park for him here. |
This is the Pecan Street eatery and brewery |
My view out the window from my table |
A view of my table and dinner |
and still being used as the bank |
Back side of the Court House |
Nice cannon protecting the Court House |
This is still being used as the detention center |
Part of the LBJ park |
