Tim and I are riding to Whittier, AK today. A nice look across Turnagain Arm.

Seven years ago, Sarah treated me to a ride on this train to Seward....

And then a cruise on Resurrection Bay.

A nice view the mountains and glaciers.

Since this is a day ride from my daughters home we unloaded the bikes.

Besides all of the mountains and lakes, we probably saw at least 10 or 12 significant glaciers today.

Nice place for a rest.

I couldn't figure out which glacier this burg calved from.

A tunnel, but not the tunnel
At 2.5 miles long this is the longest tunnel in North America.  It is shared by both cars and trains. The flow is southbound on the half hours, and northbound on the straight up hours. Trains have priority, and motorcycles go last. You have to stay between the tracks with your bike. You will probably go down if you veer onto the track. We each paid a twelve dollar toll to ride it both directions.

This is the pay station for the Whittier Tunnel

Alaska is a big state, but we keep bumping into Rudy and Stan in different cities across the state.

Whittier is one of the ports of the Alaskan Highway Ferry system.

There are 220 people living in the town of Whittier. 200 of them live in that old Army barracks building.

We had a bowl of clam chowder that was very good in this little restaurant.

A pretty good variety of boats in the harbor.

Mostly fishing boats and one big cruise ship.

Beautiful waterfalls on all three sides of the harbor.

Sherm may have visited this office in the 70's

Another large glacier
