Today we rode from Dawson, YT to Tok, AK. It is called the Top of the World road. I thought I would give my description the Alaskan Highway now for any of you that are considering the trip. 99% of it is paved and in good condition. Once in a while you will find a mile or two that is gravel, but it is still easy to ride. From Whitehorse to Dawson, you leave the Alcan and this road is a little rougher, but still easily manageable. From Dawson to Tok, it is about 50% paved and 50% gravel. Mostly well groomed. The one thing I have really noticed is the wind. Most of the time we have had 20-40 mph winds. I don't know if this is normal or is just an unusual event. Gasoline has not been an issue so far. I have gone 200 miles between fills a couple of times, but by choice. If you do come this way, be sure to be able to go 150 between fills. and if you do the Dalton, be able to do 250. We won't be doing the Dalton for a week or so, so the above statement regarding it is from research and hearsay.
